With many different types of boat trailers for sale, you need to consider a few things first in order to find the right one.
The first thing to work out is the transome length of your boat. Also find out the overall length of your boat, the width of your boat and the weight of your boat.
Your trailer salesperson will also need to know if your trailer has an aluminium or fibreglass hull. Aluminium boats generally sit on skids while fibreglass boats perform well on roller trailers. The rollers assist to help the boat on and off the trailer.
If your trailer and boat weigh over 700km you will need to have brakes on your trailer. Mechanical brakes are for boat and trailer weights 700kg - 1999kg. Boat and trailer combinations over 2 tonne (2000kg) require a hydraulic or electric brakeing system.
The next thing to consider is how often and how you will be using your boat trailer. Will your boat and trailer be used a few times a week to go fishing or will it only be used a few times a year? How long do you plan to keep your boat? Do you want a chinese made imported boat trailer or do you want an Australian made boat trailer built tough to stand up to Australian conditions?
